Trip Overview: 

Punakha was the previous capital city of Bhutan and it continues to remain a resident of head Lama named Ja Kempo. Here, you will find Dzong as a stunning and a renowned building of Bhutan. The walled fortress of the city contains large numbers of the well-known temples and sprawling courtyards. Since Punakha Dzong is that the confluence of two famous rivers opposing the backdrop of nearby gentle hills, it constitutes a spectacular venue to enjoy the Punakha Dromchoe festival.

The Punakha Dromchoe festival is a unique one celebrated in Bhutan, as it hosts an exclusive recreation by highlighting various battle scenes of the 17th century with the army of Tibet. Local military men or pazaps dress in the traditional battle gear to reenact the ancient battle scene.

Moreover, the reenactment took us back to several years, where because of the absence of any standing army in Bhutan, men belonging to eight different Tshogchens or blocks of great village in Thimpu came ahead and successfully managed to expel of the invading forces of Bhutan. Thus, the victory of men resulted in the formation of the new period involving international peace and long-term stability.

Day 01: Arrival at Paro in Bhutan
Our team will receive you at Paro and later on, take you to the hotel. Later on, during the day, you will visit Paro Dzong and the National Museum.

Day 02: Tiger’s Nest and Taktshang Monastery
Today, we will hike up to reach the Tiger’s Nest and then to Takhtsang teahouse for lunch. Later on, we will enjoy the spectacular view of the Takhtsang monastery and choose to stay overnight in the hotel.

Day 03 and Day 04: Hike to nearby areas of Paro and drive to the Bhutan’s Capital Thimphu
Our team will start hiking to the nunnery of Kila Goenpa to get superb views in every possible direction, such as the Taktsang Goenpa, the Haa Valley and the Paro Valley. After this, we will go for a drive to Thimphu. On the fourth day of our trip, we will have an excursion to the Phadoding Monastery built during the 13th century and go for an overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 05: Drive to Punakha via Dochu Pass (3100m)
After you complete your breakfast, we will drive to the ancient Bhutanese Capital i.e. Punakha via the Dochu Pass. During our trip, we will get excellent views of the famous Himalayan region. Later on, in the afternoon, you will be able to enjoy sightseeing in Wangdi and in Punakha Valleys.

Day 06: Punakha Dromchoe Festival
Today, you will attend the grand opening of the Punakha Dromchoe Festival for the entire day and at the same time, will be the part of festivities available in the courtyard of the Punakha Dzong.

Day 07: Drive to Trongsa and Back to the Hotel
Now, we will go for a drive to Trongsa and stop to have our lunch at the Chendebji Chorten, while during the afternoon time, we will go for an excursion to the Royal Family’s ancestral home named Kuenga Rabten, while rest during the nighttime at our hotel.

 

Day 08: A short drive to Wangdi

After having our breakfast, we will start moving towards our next destination i.e. Wangdi.

 

Day 09: Closing Day of Punakha Dromchoe Festival

Today, we will attend the last day of the Punakha Dromchoe festival at Punakha Dzong to be the part of few unusual events, while stay at the hotel overnight.

 

Day 10: Drive Back to Paro from Punakha via Thimphu

We will start with our return journey from Punakha to reach Paro. Meanwhile, we will have our lunch in Thimpu and finally the farewell dinner at Paro.

 

Day 11: Drive to the Paro International Airport

Our team will take you to the airport on time, so that you may go for departure.
